Most golfers would consider themselves ‘committed’ if they played 100 rounds of golf in a year, but that wasn’t good enough for a South African golf fanatic called Heinrich Du Preez. He’s a man – with plenty of free time by the looks of things - who has an obsession with breaking golf related Guinness World Records (like trying to hit the most golf balls in 24 hours). This time around, Heinrich took it upon himself to break the record for playing the most rounds of golf in a one week period.
Each day for a week he would wake up at 4 am for a 5:10 start and would play non-stop until 10 at night, on his way to his target of 15 rounds per day. By the end of the week he had played a staggering 1809 holes (a feat that was made all the more impressive when you add the full field of players he had to contend with) and had birdied every hole on the course at least once. Of course this achievement came with a price; Heinrich had so many blisters on his feet that he had to play a number of rounds barefoot!
Without wanting to undermine a great golfing feat, one can’t help but think that a more comfortable, properly fitted pair of golf shoes would have helped Heinrich play a few more holes, and score a few more birdies! South African Victory For Chart Hills Members
Chart Hills pair Beverley Benson and Mike Lyons have scooped two of the top amateur events in South Africa during the 'season'. The first of the two that they won was the prestigious South African SHUT at the renowned Fancourt Club in early February and then 'The Valentine's Day Massacre' at the Jack Nicklaus designed course in Knysna - Simola. Well done!
