Charthills Pro Newsletter - 8th July 2010

This week, something slightly different… I came across this recently; it’s called the “Golfer’s Poem”!!!

In my hand I hold a ball, white and dimpled, and rather small.
Oh how bland it does appear, this harmless looking little sphere.
By its size I could not guess, the awesome strength it does possess.
But since I fell beneath its spell, I've wandered through the fires of hell.

My life has not been quite the same, since I chose to play this crazy game.
It rules my mind for hours on end, a fortune it has made me spend.
It has made me curse and made me cry, and hate myself and want to die.

It promises me a thing called par, if I hit it straight and hit it far.
To master such a tiny ball, should not be very hard at all.
But my desires the ball refuses, and does exactly as it chooses.
It hooks and slices, dribbles and dies, and disappears before my eyes.

Often it will have a whim, to hit a tree or take a swim.
With miles of grass on which to land, it finds a tiny patch of sand.
Then has me offering up my soul, if only it would find the hole.
It's made me whimper like a pup, and swear that I will give it up.
And take to drink to ease my sorrow, but the ball knows ... I'll be back tomorrow.

Frustration, pain, anguish and despair… Does this describe your golf game a little too well? Then do yourself a favour, stop blaming the ball and take some responsibility! Book yourself in for a lesson or two; I’ll improve your ball striking, your direction control AND your distance - doing this will increase your enjoyment of the game exponentially.

Regards,
James

From Anthony Froom: Foursomes Championship
Thank you to everyone who took part in the foursomes championship on Saturday. Congratulations to Lee Briggs and Chris Broughton who successfully defended their title with a fantastic score of 68, beating off the challenge of Steve Trennery and Joe Healy (70c/b) with Phil Bramall and Bill Sangster in third with (70).

100 Hole Leaderboard Challenge
A huge thank you to all of you who sponsored us for the 100 hole challenge on Monday in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The day was great fun and we are pleased to say that we completed the 100 holes in 11 hours and 38 minutes- including a bit of a slog though the final round at Dale Hill and managing to push though the pain barrier! Kevin, although exhausted, still managed to drive the green on the 99th hole, the par four 18th on the Old Course.

It is not too late to make a donation if you have yet to do so. All monies raised (£1755 so far) will go to the Captain’s Charity of Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you once again to all of you who gave so generously!

Regards,
Anthony and Kevin
